While growing up in Brooklyn, New York, David Smith was always known as the “chubby kid”. However, while dealing with self-image issues up until high school, David found himself skipping classes to sneak into “Mr. P’s” gym class for extra hockey and Ping-Pong. He also began a love of pickup basketball and played for hours after school. This was David’s entry into the fitness world.

To this day, he is still surprised when referred to as “thin” or “muscular. It is incredible to return home to Brooklyn and receive multiple compliments about his weight loss.

During college, David had the incredible opportunity to help train athletes at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Working with the collegiate athletes allowed him to witness a level of commitment he came to admire. He soon after acquired his ACSM-CPT certification and began working for “At Your Door” fitness-company in the DMV area. The two and a half years with them was a long and challenging experience. David was training clients ranging from 12 to 80 years old, all with multiple fitness levels. Even with an increasing client base, he felt as though he could do more to help people. Therefore, he is currently pursuing his Masters degree in business, in hopes of improving and furthering the fitness industry.

David eventually moved to Florida where he was an active member of CrossFit Non-Stop. He states, "I found that CrossFit pushed me harder than I have ever been pushed in my life. It helped me to handle stress better, inside the gym and out. While immediately experiencing benefits in speed, power and muscle growth, it pushed me into my next rep…  not only in the next set of burpees, but in the next phase of my life. I made the decision to pursue and attain my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.

David joined CrossFit Hard in July. He saw that Coach Vic’s passion, while teaching CrossFit kids, truly translates to any sport, activity, or life endeavor. Inspired by owner, Coach Graham, David admires his diverse background and holistic outlook on fitness. He states, “His (Graham’s) positive and successful attitude is living proof of benefits that result while embracing the fitness approach and lifestyle CrossFit encourages”.

David strives to adopt a similar holistic approach while adding his unique energy and flair to the gym. He is excited to be a part of the CrossFit Hard team and hopes to spread nothing but positivity to all.
